How can I tell if a source is primary or secondary?

How do I know if information is fact or opinion?​

SS.2.3: I can determine if a source is primary or secondary and distinguish whether it is mostly fact or opinion.

Vocabulary

Primary Sources- sources that come from the time period or the people who witnessed an event.

​

Secondary Sources- sources that come after the time period or from people who did not witness an event.

​

Fact- something true that can be proven.

​

Opinions- things that may not be true but are what people think.

​

Source- a place, person, or thing from which information comes.

​

Artifact- an object from the past, like old toys, tools, or clothing.

​

Evidence- several facts that support a claim.

​

Firsthand- coming from the original source or person, something that someone saw or experienced.

​

Secondhand- something you learn about from other people rather than from someone who experienced it.
